'American Horror Story' Gets Three More Seasons, Sarah Paulson to Make Season 10 Return

The horror is here to haunt us for a little while longer. FX did a major flex through one of its flagship shows Thursday by renewing Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology American Horror Story for three more seasons ahead of season 10. The announcement was made during the Television Critics Association Winter press tour.

AHS is one of FX’s most decorated shows, garnering numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards throughout its nine-season run so far. FX Networks and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf dropped the news of the show being renewed for seasons 11 through 13. “Ryan and Brad are the undisputed masters of horror TV, having created the anthological limited series with American Horror Story and sustaining its success for nearly a decade as FX’s highest-rated series,” Landgraf said. “We are grateful to them and Dana Walden and our studio partners for committing to another three years. ‘AHS’ has showcased a wealth of award-winning actors since day one and we appreciate the contributions of everyone, including Ryan, Brad and fellow executive producers Tim Minear, James Wong, Alexis Martin Woodall, and Bradley Buecker, the writers, directors, cast, and crew for each new, unforgettable installment of ‘American Horror Story.'”

But that’s not the only bit of good news today. After sitting on the bench for season 9, American Horror Story mainstay Sarah Paulson confirmed she will be back for Season 10, according to TheWrap. Paulson has no idea what her role might be, but she did say that it’s going to be a major character. “I can confirm that I will be in next season,” Paulson said. “I have no idea what it will be… But I’m not coming back as a guest part, I will be a central character.”

Given the three more seasons to come, Paulson’s involvement is also left in question. “God willing, I have no idea,” the actress said when asked if she’ll also appear in Seasons 11, 12, and 13. “But I do know that I did ask Ryan, if the question was asked to me, could I say that I was coming back, and he said, ‘Yes, you can say.’ So yes, I will be back on ‘American Horror Story.'”

On the other hand. there’s still no word as to whether or not Evan Peters will return to the AHS universe. The actor revealed back in April that he was taking a break from the show. “It’s just exhausting. It’s really mentally draining, and you don’t want to go to those places ever in your life,” Peters said. “And so you have to go there for the scenes, and it ends up integrating it somehow into your life. You’re in traffic and you find yourself screaming and you’re like, What the hell? This isn’t who I am.

American Horror Story is fresh off of its ninth season, titled “1984,” which featured new and old faces stuck in a cursed camp with freak killers on the loose. In true secretive fashion, FX did not announce a premiere date for American Horror Story Season 10 nor reveal the title for the next anthology.
