'Bohemian Rhapdsody' Trailer: Amazing First Look Draws Backlash with Bryan Fuller

At long last, we finally have the first glimpses of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the film that centers on Freddie Mercury and his band Queen. The full trailer was released, after a year of photo teases and a controversial exit by former director Bryan Singer.

The “Bohemian Rhapsody” trailer starts off strong, with the familiar tunes of the band reverberating throughout the entire thing. Of course, special props go to Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, who does an awesome (and eerily accurate) portrayal of the late great Queen frontman. We see various shots of Malek giving his best Mercury impression in different concert scenes, but the most notable one would probably how Mercury and the band made one of the most beloved rock anthems in history, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Directed by Dexter Fletcher—the brains behind “American Gods,” NBC’s “Hannibal,” and CBS’ “Star Trek: Discovery”—the film will follow the band’s musical story and the extraordinary lead singer’s journey to rock stardom, as well as the various controversies that riddled Mercury during his heydays.

Backlash with Bryan Fuller

After the release of “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” trailer, writer-producer Bryan Fuller called out 20th Century Fox for “hetero-washing” Mercury’s story. According to Fuller on Twitter, the trailer seems to deny the fact that Mercury was an openly gay/bisexual man. Fuller also criticized the film’s synopsis, which referred to AIDS merely as a “life-threatening illness.”

“Bohemian Rhapsody” stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hollander, and Mike Myers. The film will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
