New Star Wars Anthology Idea Reportedly Being Developed

There’s no denying that “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is one of the greatest ideas that hellped  launch the “Star Wars” movie anthology. Lucasfilm’s first venture into the idea proved to be a massive success, and we have John Knoll to thank for that. “Rogue One” not only managed to stay on top of its game, but also grossed over $1 billion at the box office. One of the most beloved characters in the first “Star Wars” anthology movie are Donnie Yen’s Chirrut Imwe and Alan Tudyk’s droid K-2S0. The groundwork for more “Star Wars” anthology films has been laid, and we all know that there’s more story to tell other than the Skywalker saga.

A New Star Wars Anthology Movie Coming Soon

After the success of “Rogue One,” it’s creator is gearing up for more work. At a recent panel interview, Knoll revealed that he is indeed working on an idea for a new anthology film. During a “Rogue One” session in the National Association of Broadcasters show, The Hollywood Reporter reports what Knoll had to say:

“I have another idea I’ve been tinkering with. It’s maybe 75 percent there. I haven’t pitched it to [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy]. It’s another Star Wars thing…There’s no reason to think Disney is going to stop wanting to make Star Wars movies if there’s quality and there’s interest. It has unlimited potential. It has a huge number of characters, worlds … It’s a massive playground.”

Given how massive “Rogue One’s” success was, it’s very likely for Knoll’s pitch to be greenlit by Lucasfilm. It also looks like the movie will focus on new characters rather than the ones we know of in the “Star Wars” canon. And with him mentioning the multitude of characters in the “Star Wars” universe, Knoll isn’t very keen on focusing on just the characters closer to the Skywalker saga, which also means that an Obi-Wan film isn’t on his table.

Now it looks like there’s more too “Star Wars” than meets the big screen when it comes to original anthology films. With Episode VIII and IX coming this year and the next, it’s clear that the “Star Wars” franchise will continue on until God knows when. What excites over this news is the path that the studio is taking us in terms of the “Star Wars” galaxy. Fans have been raving about an Old Republic-set trilogy, and we might just be able to witness the golden age of the Jedi and the Sith.

Wherever the anthologies take us, one thing is clear: “Star Wars” will always be here to stay.
