Sony's Venom And Black Cat To Be Part of The Marvel Cinematic Universe

It looks like we finally know which timeline Sony’s solo “Venom” and “Black Cat” films will be fitting in to. A lot of fans have been left wondering the scope of the Sony-Marvel deal when they agreed to share the rights for “Spider-Man.” The chances of a crossover between Sony’s upcoming efforts seemed very unlikely, especially considering how Spidey belongs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.

Now it’s being confirmed that Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” could possibly exist with Tom Hardy’s “Venom” and “Black Cat/Silver Sable” films.

Sony Exec On The Venom/Black Cat/Silver Sable Crossover

In a press junket interview, former Sony executive Amy Pascal and Mervel President Kevin Feige confirmed the possible crossover between the MCU timeline and the upcoming “Spider-Man” spin-off films from Sony.

To appease the confusion, Pascal now claims that Venom exists in the same timeline where “Spider-Man” is in. She doesn’t specifically mention the MCU, but implies it otherwise.

“Both movies will now take place in the world that we are creating for Peter Parker.” Pascal explained. “They’ll be adjuncts to it, they may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world. And they will be connected to each other as well.”

Pascal was then asked if “Spider-Man” will be appearing in the “Venom” movie. Pascal then said: “There’s always a chance. I think one of the things that Kevin has done with Marvel that’s so brilliant, is bringing the fans along, and making each movie feel like a chapter in a book. That you have to read that chapter in order to go forward. And I think the investment that fans get to feel in being part of a larger story and understanding what’s happening, is something that I know Sony would want to emulate.”

This certainly is an unprecedented feat, as we have never seen a crossover between films belonging in different and separate universes. Marvel’s use of “Spider-Man” in “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War” was a complete overhaul of the character’s backstory, which we are also set to see once “Spider-Man: Homecoming” comes out.

Nevertheless, Pascal’s announcement certainly gives fans more hope that they will be getting the best of both worlds for stories set within the “Spider-Man” story.
