'Star Wars Rebels' Season 4, Episode 10 'Jedi Night' Recap: Rescue Missions and Unexpected Death [SPOILERS]

“Star Wars Rebels” is back and this animated prequel is shifting towards the ways of the force before the show’s end. Before going on a break, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) captured Hera (Vanessa Marshall), after being the sole survivor of the rebellion attack. He tried to torture information out of the Commanding pilot about the location of their Rebel base, and so the Ghost Crew must infiltrate the Imperial headquarters of Lothal to save one of their own.

Because of his feelings for Hera, Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) urges Ezra (Taylor Gray) to take the lead on her rescue mission. He admits he’s afraid his emotions would cloud his judgment and would only lead them to more trouble. Ezra promises him they will get Hera back, but Kanan has to be there. With Hera’s capture and Kanan not taking leadership, Ezra and the Ghost Crew try to figure out a way to infiltrate Imperial headquarters. We see more of the Force on this episode of “Star Wars Rebels” with both Ezra and Kanan. Both Jedi use the force to sense Hera’s whereabouts. Knowing her exact location, Ezra suggests they use gliders to fly under the radar–it would make them look like Loth bats than rebel intruders.
Sabine (Tiya Sircar) tells them they would make their gliders to enter the headquarters then find an escape ship. While the rebels were making their planes and Shadow Stormtrooper disguise, Kanan was getting a makeover. In the depths of the Loth cave, Kanan gives himself a trim. He surprised the others with his new look before going out to save the love of his life. Due to unattentive Stormtroopers guarding the Imperial Headquarters, The Ghost Crew flew in undetected and were mistaken for creepy looking bats.

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Kills off a beloved character

Fans of “Star Wars Rebels” knew they were in for a tragic moment at some point in the season. But no one would have expected it to end this way. While Ezra and Sabine search for an escape ship, Kanan saves Hera from Governor Pryce. His timing was all too perfect. Governor Pryce uses an interrogation droid to get Hera to spill the coordinates of the rebel base, but the truth serum from the droid made her seem delusional. So even if she blurted out Kanan was there, Governor Pryce didn’t take it seriously. Then, Thrawn’s assassin, Ruhk, calls for Pryce leaving Hera alone. They made it too easy for Kanan to save her.
Despite the escape plan, Kanan and Hera had their moments. From Hera making fun of Kanan’s new look to declaring their love for each other. But their sweet reunion was cut short when Stormtroopers and Ruhk started shooting at them. Luckily, they were able to fend them off while Sabine and Ezra found a ship yet their triumph was nothing without a struggle.  After sharing Kanan and Hera share a kiss, Pryce orders an All Terrain Armored Transport (ATAT) to aim fire.

When it seemed like our Ghost Crew has met their end, Kenan steps in and uses a Force shield to contain the fire temporarily. Hoping to save the Jedi Master, Hera runs towards him, but he pushes her and the ship away. Their eyes lock, and as he was holding off the explosion, we see Kanan’s eyes turn from white to turquoise. Before his last moments, we witness the Jedi master regain his sight. The Ghost Crew might have saved one of their own but lost another.
“Star Wars Rebels” continues next Monday with “Wolves and a Door” and “A World Between Worlds” at 9 PM on Disney XD.
