Stranger Things Season 2: David Harbour's Chief Hopper Will Cover Up Season 1 Events

The second season of “Stranger Things” will be getting a touch of vagueness, but still in relation to the first season. It’s not out of randomness, but this time it’s because of David Harbour’s character, Chief Hopper. Harbour describes Hopper to be a complex role, and that’s where the initial attraction to the character started. Now, already playing the role of his desires, Harbour spills a little about how Hopper will do in season 2.

The Second Season Of Chief Hopper

Going against what was predicted for the show, “Stranger Things” became the show people couldn’t help but binge watch. With the success of the first season, now here’s to finding out what happened to Will Byers and its effects on him; and getting some justice for Barb too. Harbour expresses that for season two, they want it to come out as a different flavor from the previous season. He aims to make the audience indulge season 2 differently, but also enjoy it at the same time.

He adds that being the chief police, there’s a lot of burden on his character. Hopper wants to protect the children while at the same time keeping the information as one of the few that actually know. Additionally, Harbour points out that Hopper’s demons aren’t fully put to rest despite the events in season 1.

“There’s a bit of a cover-up kind of going on that Hopper is head of. We don’t need people to know about the inter-dimensional monster that was running around town,” Harbour says in an interview with Uproxx. The actor also mentions a complexity with his character and that he’s “sort of pulled in a lot of different directions.”

The Meaning Of Heroism

Harbour’s Chief Hopper character did kind of portray the hero image in season 1, what with saving Will and all. Harbour also says, “that scene where he breathes him back to life, Hopper takes this breath in, and I thought that was the first time he’d breathed in a long time since his daughter died. There is some patching up that’s happened with him. He sort of becomes heroic.”

He adds that emotional and interesting pitfalls are indeed present for the character, but for further details, Harbour didn’t comment. That’s not the only secret too, as there are tons more in the second season. Secrets capable of blowing fan’s minds which are why they’re so tight-lipped about it. Aside from that, the actor also expresses deep appreciation for the support of fans, in all forms. Whether it be in art or fan fiction—even the fan theories.

“Stranger Things” season two will premiere during Halloween this year, October 31st.
