'The Passage' Season 1, Episode 2 'You Owe Me a Unicorn' Recap: Deal

Picking up immediately after the shootout at the Sheriff’s OfficeThe Passage raises the stakes higher. While the outbreak in China brings increasing casualties, the scientists of Project NOAH become anxious to finish the cure. Meanwhile, the pursuit of the child crosses borders. No one can run away forever.

In this week’s episode of The Passage, Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) brings Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney) to the safety of his former Military Instructor, Lacey Antoine’s (Kecia Lewis) home. As Clark Richards (Vincent Piazza) and his team pursue Brad, Dr. Jonas Lear (Henry Ian Cusick) reevaluates his moral stand on the experiment.

Dr. Lear’s resolve to go through with the experiment falters. With the child still at large, Dr. Lear’s focus remained on Anthony Carter’s (McKinley Belcher III) progress. He barely had to do anything, since Dr. Major Nichole Sykes (Caroline Chikezie) monitored Carter closely as well. Dr. Lear raises the question of going through with experimenting on the girl. On the other hand, Dr. Lear remembers how he discovered what led to Project NOAH.

A few years ago, his wife, Elizabeth (Jennifer Ferrin) had dementia. Upon learning about this, he convinces Dr. Tim Fanning (Jamie McShane) to help fund the expedition to Bolivia, despite Elizabeth convincing him to cancel the trip. Things do not go well for Dr. Lear. Now, what he thought of as a cure now threatens the life of a child. Also, Elizabeth’s dementia worsened, making her stay at a nursing home.

After Dr. Lear injects the formula on Anthony Carter (McKinley Belcher III), Anthony’s body reacts to it immediately. His football injury on his knees heals 5 hours after the dosage. Also, he ran a total of 6 miles in the morning. However, there is one strange drawback. He has another dream where Shauna Babcock (Brianne Howey) and Dr. Fanning appear. Anthony does not realize it, but he will become one of them, soon. Dr. Fanning also asks Anthony to tell Dr. Lear that he did change the world but is yet to see how. As Anthony relays the message, Dr. Lear stared, stunned at what Anthony said.

After listening to Lila’s instructions, Amy woke Brad up. A few moments later, their trip continues. Destination: Wisconsin.

After Lila reaches the house, they plan their escape to the Canadian Border. The next morning, everyone prepares what they need for the getaway. However, Clark and his forces surrounded the house. Brad and Lacey try to put up a fight, but as soon as Lacey got shot, Brad decides to surrender to buy Lila and Amy time to escape. Still, Amy decides to return to Brad. Taunt

Alex Morf and Brianne Howey in The Passage Season 1 Episode 2

FOX

Simmons (Alex Morf), one of the many janitors in Project NOAH, hated looking after Shauna. He perhaps knew her before her incarceration. Nathan (Carson Holmes) in contrast to him, focused on doing his job without any attachments. As their shift ended, Simmons tosses Nathan’s ID into Shauna’s holding cell. Fearfully, Nathan reaches for his ID before Shauna could hold him. Simmons laughs and moves too close to Shauna, giving her the chance to bite Simmons’ neck.

‘The Passage Season 1, Episode 2 ‘You Owe Me a Unicorn’ Final Verdict

Cutting the chase plot short to have the main characters in one setting could have been extended, but the episode’s plot is excellent, nonetheless. Also, providing time to explain Dr. Lear’s backstory added up to his character. Despite having multiple characters with leading roles, the show manages to keep them from overshadowing each other. Still, the show is yet to show us how the ‘apocalypse’ starts.

The Passage returns Monday, January 28th with ‘That Never Should Have Happened to You’ at 9/10c on FOX.
