'The Passage Season 1, Episode 8 'You Are Not That Girl Anymore' Recap: Traps

The Passage happens as the Virals manage to trick the humans. Unfortunately, Project N.O.A.H.’s staff party will be their last. While a select few works on the cure, most of the employees join the party since it is their last day. Bloodshed is sure to happen once the Virals breakout, and it seems that Humanity’s only line of defense is too weak.

In this week’s episode of The Passage, Clark Richards (Vincent Piazza) counters Shauna Babcocks’ (Brianne Howey) tactics as he assembled a defense team against the Virals. Meanwhile, Dr. Major Nichole Sykes (Caroline Chikezie) and Lila Kyle (Emanuelle Chiriqui) work on the cure for the virus. As Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) stays on Amy Bellafonte’s (Saniyya Sidney) bedside, Tim Fanning (Jamie McShane) tries to trick her into joining them.

Despite Shauna’s multiple intrusions, manages to prepare the facility’s defense team. Since most of the employees are celebrating their last day, Clark’s chosen few are the only ones eligible for service. Because of Director Horace Guilder’s (James Le Gros) incompetence, one of the Virals, Julio Martinez (Kamar de los Reyes), manages to trick him into redesigning the facility’s security systems. Lawrence Grey (Jason Fuchs) was also under Fanning’s influence, giving the Virals control over some of the security measures. Now, Clark and his team are all the stand between the Human Race and an apocalyptic breakout.

The combined minds of a scientist and a practicing doctor helped bring the cure to perfection. Now, Humanity stood a chance against not only Fanning’s Virus but all other sicknesses. However, Dr. Major Sykes and Dr. Kyle needed to bring the cure to Amy first. Sadly, Grey’s escape from where Clark bounded him kept the medicine as far as possible from Amy. With Dr. Kyle incapacitated outside and Dr. Major Sykes trapped inside the lab, it is up to Brad to save and protect Amy— unless she turns.

Anthony Carter (McKinley Belcher III) knew that intimidating Fanning would make no difference to Amy’s situation, but he does this anyway. He could not stomach the thought of Fanning luring Amy in the way he experienced it. However, Fanning made up his mind. Amy is their twelfth, and she will turn. In the dreamscape setting of the land of the Virals, Fanning often visited Amy.

Amy knew what to do about Fanning and what to do with herself. Yes, she plays along with Fanning’s patronizing but Amy did not let Fanning cloud her judgment. No amount of surprises made her change her mind, either. When the time came for her to embrace becoming a Viral, Amy seriously considered heading down a symbolic tunnel that would help her turn. Still, the words from Brad as well as her mother, Jeanette Bellafonte (Saycon Sengbloh). With that, Amy races back to the tunnel’s entrance, riding past Fanning on her old, white bike.

The Protector

Brad kept his promise never to leave Amy’s side, but he also made peace with the thought of losing her, at least not to Fanning. Brad sat beside her when she lost her tooth and remained here up until she woke up again. Brad loved her like his daughter, so when the Virals broke free, he wasted no time in picking her up and bringing her to safety. Brad’s kindness extends as far as to Guilder, whom he dragged since Clark left him lying bound on the floor. However, just as the blast doors sealed shut, Amy’s eyes turn yellow.

‘The Passage’ Season 1, Episode 8 ‘You Are Not That Girl Anymore’ Final Verdict

This episode felt like a season finale because of all the dramatic events that happened. Clark and Shauna’s relationship was both happy and sad to watch, knowing what they are to each other now. Also, the fact that an idiot like Lawrence Grey became one of the main enemies felt annoying, but it added much color to the plot. We might finally get the Viral v.s. Human action we wanted ever since the show’s premiere since the Virals are finally out of the cage, and the Virals probably look at the party that the employees are having as a buffet.

The Passage returns Monday, March 11th with ‘Stay in the Light’ at 9/8c on FOX.
