'The Purge' Season 1, Episode 7 'Lovely Dark and Deep' Recap: Escape

Chaos in America during the night of The Purge is not ordinary. As our protagonists make their escape, others endure a horrible experience. Luckily, not everyone on Purge night loses their sense of humanity. Fortunately, not all hope disappears during this distasteful holiday.

In this week’s episode of The Purge, Miguel (Gabriel Chavarria) and Penelope (Jessica Garza) Guererro tread a dangerous forest. Meanwhile, (Rick (Colin Woodell) and Jenna (Hannah Emily Anderson) welcome Lila Stanton (Lili Simmons) into their home. As this happens, Joe (Lee Tergesen) rescues Jane Barbour (Amanda Warren) from David Ryker (William Baldwin).

Once Miguel and Penelope left the Carnival of Flesh, they had to go through a dangerous forest, full of traps and unknown threats. Throughout their trek, the siblings argued. Penelope reiterated readiness to die. Miguel explains that their parents would not want that for her. Eventually, the siblings forgive each other. However, as they neared the forest’s exit, Penelope springs a trap. Fortunately, Miguel unties her in time, and they make a run away from the hunters into safety.

Neighbors

Seeing Lila plead for their help, Rick and Jenna decide to let her into their home. While the couple tended to her wounds, a man in a hoodie breaks into their house before Rick placed it in lockdown. Before Lila went to rest, she talks to the couple about what she went through. In one of the houses’ rooms, Rick airs his suspicion about Lila, pointing out her incoherent story.

Just as they started to argue, Rick and Jenna hear a faint sound. As Rick opens the door, their neighbor, Ross Bailes (Joe Chrest) points a gun at him. Ross laments about their behavior towards him as their neighbor. The couple tries to negotiate with him but fails. When Jenna causes a distraction, Ross held her hostage. However, Lila comes out of nowhere and stabs him in the back.

Moments after the tension, the trio rests on the couch, waiting for the night to end. As they watched the news, Jenna went to sleep. Rick noticed how Lila held on to Jenna’s hand, but he did not make her let go.

During Jane’s high school years until before her employment, her mother, Lorraine Barbour (Deneen Tyler) often pushed her to use her looks to get what she wants. Jane was uncomfortable about this thought, especially since she is academically excellent. However, she ended up joining a pageant.

Before her employment, Lorraine urged her to dress daringly, despite Jane’s attempts to convince her. Still, Jane pushed through with what she thought is best. Unfortunately, even if Jane already had the job, Lorraine again urged her to play their ‘game.’

Inside David’s Purge celebration, Jane endured everything they did to her; from tying her up to display to David’s inappropriate touching. Suddenly, the Masked Man, Joe (Lee Tergesen) entered the room. He killed some men before he found and freed Jane. Before they went out, Jane picked up a handgun and shot him in the head.

The Purge continues on Tuesday, October 23rd with ‘Giving Time Is Here’ at 10/9c on the USA Network.
