'Whiskey Cavalier' Season 1, Episode 2 'The Czech List' Recap: Honeytrap

FBI Agent Codename Whiskey Cavalier meets his CIA counterpart, Codename Fiery Tribune. After thwarting the corrupt FBI Director’s attempt to continue illicit activities, Whiskey and Fiery officially become part of a co-op team made to deal with high-profile criminals. Team Whiskey’s first mission takes them to Prague, Czech Republic, recovering a ledger that could take down much of the world’s criminal network.

In this week’s episode of Whiskey Cavalier, Team Whiskey launches an operation to obtain a ledger easily considered as the world’s most wanted list. Agent Will Chase (Scott Foley) and Agent Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) clash over Will’s emotional methods. Meanwhile, FBI profiler Susan Samson (Ana Ortiz) keeps tabs on fellow team members Agent Jai Datta (Vir Das) and Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams).

Jai prided himself in using his fancy spy gadgets. At the first part of the mission, Jai deployed a remote-controlled miniature vehicle that had both a GoPro attached to it and an add-on capability. As Susan points out that he is playing with a toy, he insists that the RC is not a toy. However, his enjoyment while driving past pedestrians made it evident that it is what Susan said it is Regardless, the RC served its purpose as it gassed the occupants of the target’s car.

Edgar was a different issue. While both he and Jai deny Susan’s assessment at first, Edgar continually lies to everyone around him. Perhaps to him, it is a habit. Susan takes note of Edgar’s lie as they set up their ‘bar’ hideout. Edgar lies to a delivery lady to get her number. During the second phase of their mission, Susan gives him her harsh assessment of Edgar, a rebuttal to Edgar’s constant lying. Because of this, Edgar decides to change his ways, but he overdoes this, admitting more than what the lady needed to know about him. Edgar’s sticking to the truth is good, but oversharing about his life ultimately scared the lady away.

Not a Team Member

Because of the nature of their missions, Team Whiskey needed someone in charge of service support. Unfortunately, it was difficult for the bureau to find anyone willing to take a demanding job. The best that they could come up with was to put Agent Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins) in this position, much to the team’s dismay. Josh and Will’s friendship went downhill after the cheating incident, and it perhaps is beyond repair.

After they complete the mission, Frankie decides to give Josh a warning. He may have been doing an okay job so far, but he should not be too comfortable with them. To drive home the point, Frankie cuts Josh’s car’s brakes, willing to risk his life. What Josh did to Will is unforgivable, and if he continues to attempt a fix to their lost friendship, it will distract Will from whatever mission they needed to do.

Too Emotional

Team Whiskey’s mission is to abduct Stavros Pappas (Ermin Sijamija), a smuggler who supplies major criminal elements with their needs. He keeps a ledger containing the names of his criminal customers in safe unlocked using his retinal scan. Taking him down meant the start of breaking down the world’s largest criminal networks. However, an assassin named Hana Novak (Nansi Nsue) manages to kill Stavros first. Team Whiskey may have gotten away with Stavros’ eye from the morgue, but they now needed his estranged wife, Karen Pappas’ (Bellamy Young) retinal scan, two, since the safe required both Stavros’ and Karen’s retinal scans.

Since Karen and Stavros do not have close relations anymore, Team Whiskey decides to have Will seduce her into giving them what they needed. Despite Will’s considerably emotional methods, the mission went smoothly. Suddenly, Novak and her henchmen crash Will and Karen’s date, but Will and Frankie held their ground and emerged victorious over their enemies. Thankful and amazed, Karen agrees to help them unlock Stavros’ safe.

Before any of them realized, Karen and Hana revealed that they work together. As soon as Karen, Will, and Frankie reach and unlock the safe, Karen drops her deceptive act and burns the ledger as she held it. Team Whiskey manages to block Karen and Hana’s van in time for Will and Frankie’s escape from the vault. After a shootout and a chase in the metro station, Will captures Karen as Frankie eliminates Hana. Thanks to Karen’s photographic memory, the bureau gained all the intel they needed from the ledger without having to obtain it physically. This mission is the first of many that Team Whiskey will launch and accomplish.

‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Season 1, Episode 2 ‘The Czech List’ Final Verdict

This episode gives us a glimpse of the co-op team’s work dynamic. Their differences make them fit perfectly, just like a puzzle. The rest of the team provide comic relief as well as plot hole fixes while the central duo follows the entertaining plot. What makes this show different from other action shows its inclusion of drama and comedy on a significant scale. Overall, this chapter exceeded expectations and brought quality entertainment, despite some minor cheesy dialogues.

Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesday, March 13th, with ‘When In Rome’ at 10/9c on ABC.
