'Whiskey Cavalier' Season 1, Episode 6 'Five Spies and A Baby' Recap: Mix Up

Whiskey Cavalier and his team’s missions take them across Europe. Since they have no official records, the team has much freedom at their disposal. This time, two of them pose as soccer fans to quickly acquire a drug vehicle. However, their mission does not stop there. Instead, they discover an infant in one of the truck’s compartments, complicating their task enough to send them all out to the field.

On Wednesday night’s episode of Whiskey Cavalier, Agent Will Chase (Scott Foley) and Jai Datta (Vir Das) stop a Bulgarian drug company from trafficking black market opioids. However, Team Whiskey decides to go off the grid when Will and Jai discover a baby in the drug truck. Meanwhile, Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins) meets Will’s new girlfriend, MI6 Agent Emma Davies (Ophelia Lovibond).

Takes One to Know One

With the entire team out to find intel on their latest case, Ray stays at their hideout, monitoring their progress. To his surprise, Emma visits him there, eager to get to know about Will’s former best friend. As they talked, Emma figures out Ray’s personality considerably quickly. She saw her old self in him: wrecking friendships in exchange for the rush of hidden romantic ones. Because of this,  Emma decides to help Ray work on his bad behavior by giving him a journal. In her case, writing things down became therapeutic, and it helped her change to who she is today. In return, Ray tells her everything he knows about Will, happily watching her give Will a gift upon their arrival.

Parenthood Phobia

Jai may have agreed to join the team in their off-the-books mission, but he avoided the baby as often as he could. To him, babies are unpredictable and uncontrollable, which is everything that goes against how he does things. Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams), however, begs to differ. He encourages Jai never to limit his options. Also, he mentions how Jai changed from his self-reserved behavior to the more friendly personality he has now, specifically within the short period that they work together. Up until the baby’s return to his mother, Jai held the baby, thinking that Edgar may be right.

Being the Bigger Person

Frankie Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) decided to put their career first, choosing not to act to her and Will’s emotional connection. Now that Will has a girlfriend, Frankie finds it hard not to express what she feels. Luckily, Susan Sampson (Ana Ortiz) is there for her, listening to what she has to say and generally being Frankie’s sounding board. Also, Susan keeps Frankie from lashing out especially when Will snaps on her. However, Will apologizes later that day, thanking Frankie for not making a big deal out of his actions. It also happened to be Will’s birthday that day, so Frankie has her revenge by starting the group’s singing “Happy Birthday” to Will, who in turn covers his face with a blanket.

Seemingly Legalized Crime

Will and Jai’s mission sounded quite simple: steal the drug traffickers’ supply of opioids from them without incident. However, as Will and Jai parked the truck in the garage, they hear a baby crying in one of its containers. Since the government had trouble taking down the people who run the black market, Team Whiskey decides to help them. Much to the team’s surprise, the criminals Will and Jai encountered at the warehouse are no other than the Chief of Police, Vlad Kozlov (Goran Stjepanovic) and his right hand, Martyna Lazinsky (Marika Dominczyk), former Polish Special Ops. Fortunately, Will and Frankie make it out of the station before they got followed.

While Will and Frankie reach out to parents of missing children, Martyna catches Susan, Jai, and Edgar off guard. With the help of a tracker hidden in the baby’s teddy bear, Martyna traces their location. Meanwhile, Vlad sends one of his men to Will and Frankie’s position: the home of the baby’s mother, Simona Borisov (Alena Doláková). By the time Will and Frankie got back to their hiding spot, Vlad and Martyna already left with the baby. Luckily, Edgar manages to reverse engineer the teddy bear’s tracker signal.

Martyna Lazinsky turns out to be Martyna Marek, a deep undercover CIA Agent who monitored Vlad’s cartel for years. Now that she has the chance to end Vlad’s criminal career for good, she enlists Team Whiskey’s help to take down his entire Criminal Network. Their operation’s off-the-books status came in quite handy, giving them the freedom to move about their means.

With two CIA Agents and an FBI Agent in their fold, Vlad’s goons stood no chance against Team Whiskey. After Martyna’s signal, Will and Frankie took care of Vlad’s goons while Jai, Edgar, and Susan acquired the truck full of people Vlad abducted. Just as Martyna gained the upper hand against Vlad, Will and Frankie reach them. Vlad’s empire took less than ten minutes to eradicate thanks to their combined and well-coordinated strike. Back at the headquarters, Team Whiskey returns the baby, nicknamed ‘Baby Will,’ to Simona.

‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Season 1, Episode 6 ‘Five Spies and A Baby’ Final Verdict

The twist that Will and Emma’s relationship brought to the show changes the Will and Frankie dynamic. Now, their interactions are limited to more of professional status, although they sometimes talk like friends. Also, Jai and Edgar’s personalities complement each other, providing both comedy and touching moments to the plot. Still, one cannot help but feel that Will and Emma’s relationship may be short-lived.

Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesday, April 10th with ‘Spain, Trains, and Automobiles’ at 10/9c on ABC.
