'Whiskey Cavalier' Season 1, Episode 7 'Spain, Trains, and Automobiles' Recap: Relations

Whiskey Cavalier and Team Whiskey went on their first off-the-books mission. There, they not only take down a major criminal organization in Bulgaria but also reunite a baby and a mother. Also, the brief encounter with a deep undercover CIA Agent sparks feelings for one, intense enough to last until now. When the opportunity to have a romance while on the job comes, one must either take it or leave it.

On Wednesday night’s episode of Whiskey Cavalier, Emma Davies (Ophelia Lovibond) argues with Will Chase (Scott Foley) after her reassignment to Will and Frankie Trowbridge’s (Lauren Cohan) mission. Meanwhile, Ray Prince (Josh Hopkins), Susan Sampson (Ana Ortiz) and Jai Datta (Vir Das) help Edgar Standish (Tyler James Williams) gain confidence for his date with Tina Marek (Marika Dominczyk).

It is as if fate smiled on Edgar as he suddenly gets what he wants. After the briefing on their next mission, Edgar rambles about wanting a nemesis. When they reach the office, he receives just that: a British Operative named Todd (David Flynn). Todd mocks him and all Americans in general, mentioning how Edgar stole his desk since Todd left on a sabbatical. Also, while Edgar played coffee basketball in the canteen, he runs into Tina, who asks him out on a date. Edgar was having the time of his life.

Team Whiskey reunites behind one cause this time: setting up the perfect date between Edgar and Tina. While Edgar fidgeted and panicked over what he should do on the meetup, Team Whiskey gathered intel on Tina. In a war room like discussion, they compared Edgar and Tina’s profile with one thing in mind: boosting Edgar’s confidence. All seemed to go well in the planning until Ray messes up, telling Edgar that Tina is into Alpha types of guys. In what became (arguably) the most awkward scene of the season, Edgar blows their date as he pretended to be someone he is not.

Wishing that things would be better for Edgar, Ray and Susan plan a different date. This time, it did not involve any fancy bars or gold-striped teeth. Instead, they had Edgar and Tina in a surveillance van, without their knowledge. Once both Edgar and Tina were there, he apologizes for their first meet up. Thankfully, Edgar shows Tina his true self, which Tina enjoys.

Third Wheel Dilemma

The new mission involves background on Will’s personal life. A stolen case of plutonium was at risk of falling into the wrong hands. Their target, Jimmy Coleman (Dash Mihok) once worked with Will during his time as a Marine. Jimmy was a great guy, but since then, he took advantage of his service and made himself rich by dealing with arms. At some point of their tour, Will’s humvee became under friendly fire from no other than Jimmy himself. Also, Ray made the mistake of pulling Emma out of her mission and into Will and Frankie’s. Will is every bit as disappointed at Ray as Emma was disappointed with Will not asking Ray to change the situation.

Will and Frankie are the best at their job, and Jimmy was dumb enough to hire two goons that knew nothing about their situation. Taking the plutonium went smoothly, and they knew how Jimmy would work, so they plot a different escape route. Since they had time on their side, Will and Frankie made themselves comfortable in an unoccupied vacation house that Team Whiskey found. However, their Wine and Cheese before bedtime abruptly stops as Emma arrives.

Will, Frankie, and Emma could have left with the plutonium the next morning, but Frankie was not about letting Will’s nemesis roam free. After all, Jimmy was the only person that Will ever hated. With that, Will, Frankie, and Emma set up a rendezvous meant to entrap Jimmy. After confusing Jimmy by exchanging three identical bags, Will finally leads Jimmy and his goons to a secluded area of their rendezvous point. Realizing that they fooled him, Jimmy pointed his gun at Will’s head, but Frankie and the Police quickly surrounded them. Jimmy does not go free this time, and Will finally punches him in the face.

As per tradition, Team Whiskey celebrates its successful mission. Also, Ray was not asked to leave this time, and Emma joins the Team during their toast. Will and Frankie happily reminisce their vacation-like moment before they went to the rest of the team.

‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Season 1, Episode 7 ‘Spain, Trains, and Automobiles’ Final Verdict

The episode had many humorous moments compared to the previous ones. Also, Edgar’s first date with Tina became hard to watch as it was so awkward and embarrassing, making it one of the highlights of the chapter. It seems as if Will and Emma are going strong, and no matter how often Will and Frankie share tender moments, it looks like they will remain strictly as two good friends and colleagues.

Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesday, April 17th with ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’ at 10/9c on ABC.
